Ancient Roman "City of the Dead" Discovered

Ruins are lost 'city of the dead' beneath the feet of modern day Romans. Apparently, it's a network of tombs that are meant to mimic a complete city.

Haunted Hallo-window!

I saw this on GeekDad (Wired.com). This has to be one of the best Halloween house set-ups EVER. It's a flash animation projected against a sheet hanging in front of the living room window.

Haunted Castles of Europe

They're here! DC Comics super-hero postage stamps! I bought three sheets the first day! I bet you're thinking I'm going to just peel the entire sheet, lick it, and stick it to my bare-naked chest as I frolic through the streets of Minneapolis.....and you'd be mostly wrong.

I am, however, considering the myriad of ways to express my love for these vibrant and lavishly colorful jewels. I'm a bit of a stamp geek--and not the kind you'd associate with stamps. It all started about three years ago at the Minnesota State Fair, where one of the Grandstand vendors was selling stamps as refrigerator magnets. He had THOUSANDS of them. They were organized like a library: science (astronomy, biology, even math!), sports (olympics, star athletes, obscure athletes, black athletes, steroids-j/k), movies (classic film stars, drive-in movies, film technology!). Seriously, if there is any topic you can think of--from any country in the world--this man literally had it. It opened up an entirely new world....tiny frames of masterfully rendered artwork, preshrunk to fit on an appreciable size and mounted to a magnet so you can gaze at it in the same place you find Totino's Pizza Rolls.

I thought, "How cool is this?! I could make this!" I was wrong. Turns out that making the little buggers look like the mini, magna-masterpieces this dude churned out is harder than it looks. But I applaud anyone with the time, patience, and mental endurance to try.

In fact, if you can figure out a recipe that works--send it to me and I'll post it.

Until then, I'll probablly frame one of the sheets--it's quick and easy, and they're definately frame worth.

Even the crustiest cynic can't help but enjoy the DC Comics stamps in all their childhood glory and wonder.

Remember when summer movies were cool?

Remember when I didn't start every blog with a question? The answer to both those questions is quickly becoming a whistful and weepy "not really".

Here's a quick list of the films of the "Summer of Bummer"

Movies I have no desire to see:
--Little Man (is that even the real title? Whatev.)
--Ratatouille
--You, Me and Dupree
--Click
--The Lake House
--The Ant Bully

Movies I WAS excited to see, but the more I see the trailers on TV, the less excited I get, and I don't know why:
--Lady in the Water (Sadly, I think Newsweek is right about this one)
--My Super Ex-Girlfriend (this would seem like a homerun for me, but somehow it ain't)

Movies I like better than the general public:
--X-Men 3
--A Prairie Home Companion (you really have to be from the midwest to appreciate this one)
--Superman Returns

Movies I heard were great, but I'm just not sure:
--Monster House
--The Devil Wears Prada
--Little Miss Sunshine

Movies you'd think I would like based on the cast/filmmakers, but they still appear to somehow suck:
